Overview of the Scholarship

The Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme is a joint scheme of the UK Department for International Development, and participating UK universities- which include the University of Birmingham, to offer scholarships specifically:
A) To students from developing Commonwealth countries who are from areas of low or middle income;
B) Who could not afford to study in Britain for financial reasons; and
C) Who would not otherwise have the opportunity to benefit from such education.

Eligibility by Nationality
Applicants should have citizenship in one of the following Commonwealth developing countries:
Bangladesh, Belize, Botswana, Cameroon, Dominica, Fiji, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, India, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Malawi, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Nauru, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Rwanda, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Tonga, Tuvalu, Uganda, Vanuatu, Zambia.

Eligibility Criteria
Moreover, to be qualified, the candidates shall meet the following requirements:
- Nationality and Residency: Must be a citizen of an eligible Commonwealth developing country and must not presently be living or studying in a developed country.
- Education History: Have not previously studied in a developed country for one year or more.
- Financial Need: The applicant shall be able to demonstrate inability to fund studies in the UK personally or through support of family members.
- Commitment to Home Country: The applicant must agree to return to their home country to work or study upon completion of the scholarship.
- Language Proficiency: Evidence of English language ability should be clearly demonstrated for entry to the University of Birmingham.
Application Process
To apply, follow these steps:
- University of Admission Application: Apply to one, and be subsequently admitted, into an eligible program of either Masters or Doctorate degrees under the auspices of the University of Birmingham.
- Application to Scholarship: The application link is open now at the following Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Webpage before 12 December 2024 End.
Important Dates: Applications will be accepted from 11 November 2024, until 12 December 2024 for entry in 2025.
