Acne Treatment
As distressing as it can be, sufferers should take some
comfort in knowing that Acne is a very common skin disorder that may affect almost everyone at some time in their
life. Acne is the basic medical term for what we commonly refer to as pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads. Acne is
usually found on the face, the back, the chest, and perhaps even on the neck and arms. Most people are younger,
usually between the ages of 12-25. However, all ages can be subject to this condition.
Acne can be caused by hormonal changes and thus can be common in
teenagers or even in women whose hormones change with their menstrual cycle. Pimples and blackheads occur when
there is excess oil accumulating around hair follicles. The follicle clogs up, and an acne blemish
occurs.
For many people, the temptation to do self service acne treatment by popping or
squeezing the blemishes is irresistible. Unfortunately, this is not recommended because you can create permanent
scarring in the affected area.
The goal of acne treatment is to help the affected areas heal, and minimize the
future occurrence of new acne blemishes. Washing the affected area twice a day with a mild cleanser is beneficial.
It is good to avoid heavy cleansers because your skin does need some oil to stay healthy and maintain a natural
state.
You can also investigate a number of over the counter acne remedies. Some of these
remedies may include benzoyl peroxide, which is a common antibacterial agent. Benzoyl peroxide can decrease the
bacterial infection in the acne affected area and can also help to remove dead layers of surface skin. This acne
treatment can help the acne by making it more difficult for pores to become blocked and acne infections to
start.
It is important to remember that home acne treatments do not work immediately –
they take some time. Sometimes, it can take weeks even for the effects to be really noticeable. If the acne
treatment is not working after some time or the acne is getting progressively worse, it is always good to consult
with your doctor. You doctor may recommend a visit to a dermatologist who has many other acne treatments available
to you.
The important thing to remember is that acne treatments are
available. Acne can be a condition that can affect self esteem and appearance. Finding the right acne treatment for
you can help your image and your skin. Also remember that you may need to try a few different acne treatments
before you find the one that is right for you.
